Birthplace: Brooklyn, NY
Current Residence: Sugar Land, Texas (it's a suburb of Houston)
Age: 53
Family: Married Karen Day in 2001.

Education:

High School - Brooklyn Tech, 1973

BTHS is an outstanding high school in New York. I graduated from the Chemistry program in 1973, and I was a member of the Math Team. I still keep in touch, to varying degrees, with three friends from BTHS (see my Family and Friends page).

BE in Chemical Engineering - Cooper Union, 1977

Cooper Union is a tuition free, private school. The home page contains some fascinating history about the founder, Peter Cooper (a major industrialist and inventor in the 19th century), and the school itself. US News and World Report ranked Cooper's Engineering School as the best undergraduate program in the country, for schools without a Ph.D. program. Time magazine ranked Cooper as the third most selective school in the country, following only Harvard and Julliard. Money magazine listed Cooper as one of "Six Great Deals" in their ranking of American colleges and universities.

MS in Chemical Engineering - University of Houston, 1979

University of Houston My thesis title was Interfacial Properties and Their Effect on Droplet-Droplet Coalescence for Oil-Water-Surfactant Systems. My thesis advisor was Raymond W. Flumerfelt, who served for a number of years as the Dean of the Cullen College of Engineering, and is once again a Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department.

In 2005 I began involvement in several activities at the University of Houston. I am a Board Member of the Engineering Alumni Association, a member of the Dean's Engineering Advisory Board, and a member of the Alumni Council. For the past few years I have also served as an instructor in the and the Engineering Leadership and Entrepreneurship Program, and as "game show host" for the annual "Engineering Week" program.

I was also privileged to deliver the spring 2007 Commencement Address for the Cullen College of Engineering. The video of this event can be viewed following this link. The introduction begins at 23:36, the address at 25:42. (requires Quicktime)

Career History:

Seventeen years with Chevron and Natural Gas Clearinghouse (now Dynegy) in a variety of assignments, including Research Engineer, Gas Engineer, Plant Manager, Natural Gas Coordinator, Transportation Manager, and Director of Long Term Supply.

In 1998, along with my partner Ken Purgason, I cofounded Sago Energy, LLC, a natural gas gathering and processing company. Over a period of several years, we acquired and operated gas gathering systems and a gas processing plant in Louisiana and Texas. At its peak, we handled 50 MMcfd of natural gas, produced over 6500 barrels per day of natural gas liquids, and had over 70 employees. We sold these assets in 2004.

Current position: Cofounder and Executive Vice President of Tristream Energy, LLC - a natural gas gathering and processing company. Following the sale of Sago's assets, Ken Purgason and I, along with former Sago Energy CFO Mike Urban formed Tristream Energy. Tristream is currently in development mode, seeking opportunities to invest in the midstream energy business. Our office is located in the former Sago headquarters in Sugar Land.

Other:

Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas(inactive)

Former member, club President, and "Competent Toastmaster" in Toastmasters International. This is a truly worthwhile self improvement organization.

My Motto: I am, therefore I think.

Hobbies: Classical guitar, travel, old movies, and photography. My main page provides further links to some of these interests.

Political Affiliation: Independent. I am also a "card carrying member of the ACLU", an organization that heroically aids (often unpopular) causes to protect the freedoms that all Americans enjoy.

Here's a picture of me taken in the late 1950's. This was across the street from our apartment (seen in the background) in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.
