Tony Catalano's Classical Guitar MIDI Page

Last updated January 7, 2009 - Total of 46 composers and 122 MIDI files.

I have generated a number of classical guitar MIDI files over the years to use as a learning tool, and to play duets, trios, and quartets with my computer. The ones listed here should all be in the public domain.

These .mid files should all be playable through your web browser. If you have suitable MIDI software (see my FAQ's page) and want to print the sheet music, I will send .mmm files (if available) by e-mail upon request. I have generated .mmm files only for newer entries, which can be detected by files with names longer than 8 letters. I hope to eventually generate .mmm files for all my MIDI's.

The following notation will indicate the instrumentation for each file:

  • 1G: Solo guitar
  • 2G: Guitar duet
  • 3G: Guitar trio
  • 4G: Guitar quartet
  • VG: Voice and guitar duet
  • FG: Flute and guitar duet
  • TG: Trumpet and guitar duet

    Anton Diabelli (1781-1858)
Variations On A Favorite Theme For Two Guitars, Opus 57 2G
    Return to table of contents
This piece includes a theme and five variations of increasing difficulty. I entered the theme and second variation in mid-97. At that time it represented the limits of my playing ability. Since I am now able to play this piece, I added the remaining variations in early 2009.

An interesting feature of this piece requires the first guitar to play in the key of A, with a capo at the third fret, while the second guitar plays in C. In this MIDI file, I transposed the first guitar part to C, so it sounds as intended. However, if you wish to play the first guitar part as written, transpose the MIDI file back to A and use a capo. The .mmm file (see FAQ's) is available upon request, and the software allows it to display and print without transposition.
