This
was my first attempt at designing a cardmodel.
I made the original at 1/76 based on the Bellona print, which I learned
later had some errors, on top of which I misinterpreted the drawings. I corrected the more glaring errors when I
changed scale to 1/72. The model
includes two sets of tracks. The
original tracks were only 20.5 inches (52cm) wide and were found to provide insufficient
traction and high ground pressure. While
the wider 26.5-inch (67cm) tracks were being developed, “spuds” were provided. These were track extensions that could be bolted to the
narrow tracks every 4 or 5 track shoes.
Photo
evidence shows that exact spacing was not a matter of concern.
My models include narrow tracks, wide tracks and spuds.
The generic, or
unmarked, models include both types of sponsons - male and female.
